New Desktop Computer Issues
Your new computer can soon become a great friend, but when it goes wrong that friendship is put under pressure. We can help you get the most out of your new PC and get you back on track.
1: The box.
When removing the computer from its box take care to check everything is there. The computer normally comes in several boxes. Monitor, CPU, Keyboard, Mouse and speakers (Optional). Please check the boxes for the following essential items.
1: Monitor with power lead and VGA cable
2: Computer with power cable
3: Keyboard and mouse (If wireless, batteries will be included)
4: Software CDs
2: Connecting The Computer
Once you have unwrapped the computer and all the peripherals its time to plug it in. Take the computer or "Base Unit" and look at the back. Try to familarise yourself with the layout. If you are struggling to understand where everything goes take a look at the following image.

3: Power up
Once powered on the computer will begin to POST (Power On Self Test) This is normally the first screen you see and only stays on for a few seconds. Once the POST is complete you will see the Windows XP/VISTA load screen. If any of the above has failed to happen check the following.
1:Is the system restarting or freezing? If so this normally indicates a hardware issue. Please contact our support number on:01759 301616
2:The computer is not powering up? Make sure the mains lead is connected and turned on at the mains. If the computer still fails to power up there is a possible power issue. PLEASE CONTACT NCSL SUPPORT
4: Windows
Once in windows you can really get to grips with your new computer. Take a good look round and get a feel for the Operating System. If this is your first time using windows you may consider buying a Getting Started With Windows book which can help you along the way. Above all, don't be scared of your new computer, it is there to help you.
